Wanted: volunteer brand ambassadors for StuffRescue's Akron launch

StuffRescue is launching in Akron, Ohio, in September 2026, and we're looking for volunteer brand ambassadors and influencers to help our neighbors hear about it. The role is remote, Ohio-based to start, and takes 5 to 10 hours a week. It's unpaid, and you apply by email.

It's the call on the banner at the top of our homepage, aimed at Akron influencers and creators elsewhere in Ohio who want to volunteer for something local. Here is what it means in plain terms, so you can decide whether it fits before you write to us.

StuffRescue is a free way for neighbors to give things away and rescue what others no longer need, with no selling and no haggling. A launch like this depends on people who already have a local audience's trust.

What does a brand ambassador do?

The role description on our careers page opens with a line that sums it up:

You are the voice and face of StuffRescue to your community.

In practice, a StuffRescue brand ambassador takes on five kinds of work:

• Content about real rescues. Short- and long-form video, plus written posts, that show real rescues in the community.
• Audience engagement. Encouraging your followers to give, to volunteer and to build community where they live.
• Local introductions. Introducing StuffRescue to local organizations, businesses and media.
• Seasonal campaigns. Co-creating campaigns with us and helping them reach more people.
• Honest feedback. Telling us how our messaging actually lands with your audience, including when it doesn't.

You'd do all of this in your own voice, on the platforms where your audience already listens.

Who is the role for?

The main requirement is stated plainly on the listing: 20,000+ followers on at least one major platform, with real engagement rather than vanity numbers. Beyond that, the listing looks for:

• An authentic voice aligned with community, sustainability, generosity or social impact
• Comfort with video and storytelling, scripted or unscripted
• A genuine belief in dignity-first approaches, with no patronizing "charity"
• Self-direction: you create and post on your own schedule

Dignity-first is how StuffRescue works. Our mission page puts it as "Dignity, never charity": no applications, no proof of hardship, just neighbors helping neighbors. Content that makes someone feel pitied rather than welcomed isn't what we're after.

Is the StuffRescue brand ambassador role paid?

No. We want that to be clear before you apply.

Here is what you do get. You keep full ownership of everything you create, and there is no exclusivity clause. Top ambassadors are also invited to join the Advisory Council and help shape the national program.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and we aim to have a first conversation within two weeks. You don't need nonprofit experience. You need the skills for the role and alignment with the mission.

Most neighbors don't have 20,000 followers, and that's fine. There are other ways to help across Akron and Northern Ohio:
